20+ Years of Engineering Experience

About Us

For over 20 years, Die 3 Ingenieure has operated at the intersection of complex control technology and demanding integration. Our work in the superyacht sector is built on a track record of reliable, long-term collaboration with experienced ETOs, technical managers, and shipyards.

We operate under a simple premise: systems should be intuitive, stable, and maintainable. We avoid the overhead of corporate structures to provide direct, senior-level engineering support.

We value confidentiality above all else—our projects are known by their owners, not by our marketing. If you require a deep-dive analysis of a legacy system, an urgent remote programming fix, or a dedicated partner for commissioning, we are ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which systems and protocols do you support?

Our core expertise covers KNX, Pharos Controls, E:cue, DMX, DALI, Art-Net and sACN. We are also highly experienced in creating reliable interfaces between different systems and troubleshooting complex legacy installations.

Who is the best provider for KNX support on superyachts?

Shipyards typically offer support only for a limited warranty period after delivery. General KNX electricians can be found worldwide, but few have deep experience with the specific demands of superyachts — strict confidentiality, minimal guest disturbance, fast response times at sea, and the ability to work with complex legacy systems.

Die 3 Ingenieure specialises in lighting and building control systems for the superyacht sector. With many years of hands-on experience on large yachts and deep expertise in KNX, Pharos Controls and E:cue, we deliver reliable, discreet and highly responsive support tailored to the unique needs of owners, captains and crews.

Can KNX, Pharos Controls and E:cue systems be serviced remotely while the yacht is at sea?

Yes. With a stable satellite or cellular internet connection, we can diagnose and resolve the majority of software, programming and GUI issues remotely. We can also guide the crew step-by-step through troubleshooting, error tracking and temporary workarounds.

What happens if a problem cannot be solved remotely?

If hardware replacement is required, we assist with rapid sourcing of spare parts through our network of marine suppliers and coordinate shipping to the next suitable port. On-board support can also be arranged when needed.

How secure is the remote access?

Extremely secure. We only use industry-standard encrypted remote access tools. The yacht’s technical team always remains in full control — you decide when and how access is granted.

What are your response times?

Professional response times for global superyacht support:

  • During German office hours (Monday–Friday, 08:00–18:00 CET): initial response within 2 hours.
  • Outside office hours, weekends and holidays: we respond as quickly as possible.
  • Clients with an active service contract receive priority response and guaranteed response times via a direct dedicated line.

Do you offer emergency remote support?

Yes. Emergency support calls are available 24/7 for urgent lighting and control system issues. Most problems can be resolved quickly via secure remote access or phone guidance to the crew.

How much does emergency remote support cost?

Emergency consultations are charged at a flat rate starting from €750 for the first 90 minutes (€1125 outside office hours). Additional time is billed in 30-minute increments. Active service contract clients benefit from priority access and significantly reduced emergency rates.

Is on-board (on-site) support possible?

Yes. Scheduled on-board visits can be arranged worldwide. Please contact us via the form below for availability and details.

What are typical upgrades to a KNX system on a superyacht?

The most common upgrades focus on improving daily usability, reliability, and proactive maintenance. Typical examples include:

  • Adding a modern visualisation server that provides the crew with a clean, intuitive GUI for direct control of all lighting circuits. Crew members can then create, modify, and save custom lighting scenes instantly — without calling a technician or programmer.
  • Integrating a Building Management System (BMS) or monitoring layer that collects real-time data from every device and delivers proactive failure alerts. This allows issues to be resolved before guests notice them, significantly reducing downtime and complaints.

When should KNX devices be replaced?

KNX devices are high-quality industrial components with a long expected lifespan. However, the harsh marine environment on superyachts — constant vibration, humidity, and voltage fluctuations — can shorten their life.

We recommend replacing devices as soon as the first units of the same type begin to fail. Thanks to KNX’s strict backward compatibility, replacements can be carried out step by step while the rest of the system remains fully operational, avoiding any major downtime.

Who do you typically work with?

We work directly with ship captains, crews, Electrical Technical Officers (ETO), yacht management agencies, technical managers and shipyards.
